PETITION
For Urgent Road Safety Improvements on Thornbury Road (opposite Osterley Park Entrance / Jersey Road End) and the Osterley Corridor including Alderney Avenue and Jersey Road
We, the undersigned residents of the local community, are deeply shocked and saddened by the fatal traffic accident that occurred on 12 May 2025, where a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Thornbury Road, opposite the Osterley Park entrance / Jersey Road end.
It is believed that the vehicle was travelling in an easterly direction along Alderney Avenue and Jersey Road, an area with no current traffic calming measures. This corridor is increasingly being used as a bypass for the A4/Great West Road, especially during peak hours, significantly increasing the danger to pedestrians and residents.
The pedestrian suffered severe head injuries and, tragically, later passed away. This heartbreaking event highlights the urgent and ongoing road safety risks in this area, which is heavily used by families, school children, and elderly residents.

We Urgently Call on Local Authorities to Take the Following Actions:
-
Install a traffic-monitoring camera opposite the Osterley Park entrance, to monitor vehicle movements in and out of this corridor
-
Introduce traffic-calming measures, including but not limited to:
-
Speed bumps on Alderney Avenue and heading easterly on Jersey Road
-
Road narrowing where appropriate
-
Reprofiling existing speed bumps near the Osterley Park/Jersey Road entrance to improve effectiveness
-
Increase driver awareness and enforcement, through visible speed limit signage, speed cameras, and police presence during peak hours
-
-
Conduct an urgent traffic safety audit and review of the Osterley corridor, specifically covering Alderney Avenue, and heading on easterly Jersey Road, to the Thornbury Road junction
Resolution
We request that strict and systemic action be taken without delay to prevent any further loss of life or serious injury. This is a matter of public safety, and a proactive response is essential.
