PETITION

Resurface the A4 Cycle Path in West London and Improve Junction Safety for Cyclists

While significant investment is going into the construction of Cycle Superhighway 9 between Hammersmith and Hounslow, the existing cycle path along the A4/Great West Road—from Cranford to Chiswick—remains neglected.

The current surface is uneven and frequently strewn with debris, including broken glass, which increases the risk of punctures and forces cyclists to divert onto the inside lane of the A4—a fast-moving and hazardous environment for vulnerable road users. At several junctions, the cycle path abruptly disappears, leaving cyclists with no safe or direct route across, often requiring dismounting or merging with motor traffic.

We are calling for urgent action to make this vital commuter route safer and more accessible.

Specifically, we ask for:

  • Resurfacing of the existing A4 cycle path to ensure a smooth and safe ride.

  • Regular sweeping and maintenance to remove debris and prevent punctures or accidents.

  • Safer crossing infrastructure at junctions, particularly at Gillette Corner, to protect cyclists and encourage active travel.

  • Ensuring bus stop safety for all by improving cyclist-passenger interface and upgrading ineffective painted markings.

The A4 cycle path is a key link in West London’s cycling network and deserves the same attention and safety standards being applied elsewhere.
